IEEE BTC 2022 is a flagship event of the IEEE Bangalore Section, organized in collaboration with its two affinity groups – Women in Engineering (WiE) and Young Professionals (YP).
It is held annually as part of the Industry Relations program of the Section; where technology leaders, innovators, entrepreneurs, and thought provokers share their passion in addressing impactful problems, and vision on futuristic technologies that will/may disrupt/impact our way of working and living.
This edition of IEEE BTC was based on the theme of Metaverse with a specific focus on

- IoT, 5G, Web 3.0
- AI, Blockchain
BTC 2022 was held on November 4 & 5, 2022, Day one online and 2nd day in the Chancery Pavilion, Bengaluru.
The inaugural session was opened with an overview of the conference by Dr.Aloknath De. The session was concluded with a Vote of Thanks by our very charismatic and loved IEEE Bangalore Section Chair, Dr. Deepa Shenoy.
Keeping in line with the conference theme day 1 started with WIE Summit, the session kick-started with Talk-1.I: Demystifying the Metaverse by Mr.Sunil David, Advisor, TagBox. It was a spellbinding talk, where the future of the metaverse was collectively introduced by his exemplary demonstration and various real-time illustration.Talk-1.II: XR for Metaverse by Prashant Mishra Founder & CEO, TechXR Innovations Private Limited, built a diversified and illustrious idea over the XR implementations in Metaverse. Followed by Talk-1.III: Digital Twins (especially Water Twin) for Industrial Applications by VasanthaSubbaiah Vice President – Communications & Partnerships, FluxGen Engineering Technologies. This talk was one of the iconic hits, where the modern industry insights and relativity to the scientific Explora were tremendously explained. This storm of tremendous information was expanded by Talk-1.IV: Cybersecurity for the Metaverse by Sailaja Vadlamuni Senior Director, Security & Privacy, SAP. This session brought a consecutive idea on the security aspects and trust issues concerned with the metaverse, through her talk the speaker exposed us to the darker and brighter side and possibilities on the stake.
Following the series of talks, The first-panel discussion on the topic Metaverse: Good, Bad, and Ugly took place. Sudipta Ghosh, Research, Analytics & Patents, Wipro
Rohit Srivastwa, Founder, BharatVerse, to Shankar Venugopal, Vice President, Mahindra & Mahindra, Venkateswaran Sundareswaran, Global Head – Digital Marketing & Emerging Digital Solutions, Mindtree. The session was moderated by Smt. Soma Pandey, AVP, Jio Platform. The panel discussion explored the serious aspects of the toss, and the flip which brings the metaverse into a dangerous option was well justified. Providing deeper insights into its possibilities the panel brought poetic justice to the theme of the conference.
Post lunch we steered the conference focus on “Metaverse Training Workshop – Session 1” by a team of experts from LumosLab. This Metaverse Training was done under YP Track, more than 50 students actively participated in the session where a vivid idea about metaverse, NFT, and many other future game-changing technology ideas was discussed. It was a hands-on workshop that allowed students to explore the fullest. With this training, day one was completed with this huge success and learning happiness.
Day 2 started with a quick Metaverse ICE Breaker, where Dr.Aloknath De, provided the opening remarks and summarized day one events and day two started with Session – I: Immersive Reality with AR / VR / XR & AI the session was chaired by Dr. Prasant Misra&Dr. Abhishek Appaji
Started with Talk-2.I: Digital Experience with Metaverse by Venugopal Subbarao, AVP, Head – Digital Engagement CoE Infosys. This talk was an illustrious session on the digital possibilities and infinite opportunities open by the metaverse.
talk-2.II: Metaverse & AR by Tanmay Banerjee, Blockchain Architect, Boeing which was followed by talk-2.III: The Role of AI in building future by Dr. Lokesh Boregowda
Director, Samsung R&D Institute India. This talk brought inspiration to many in understanding how technology could transform the world forever.
Session- 2: IoT, 5G & Web 3.0 the session was chaired by Prof. Suma &Chengappa M R The session started with extensive talk-2.IV: IoT & 5G converging to the Metaverse by Yatin Dharamshi CTO – Head of Technology Strategy and Partner Engagement, NOKIA which gave an overall idea about 5G in action. It was followed by talk-2.V: Web3.0 for Metaverse by Dr. Santhosh Kumar Fellow, Technical Director – Digital, Atkins, he discussed how web 3.0 is primarily concerned with who will rule( tech giants or individuals) and govern the internet in the future. This talk continued with talk 2.VI: Metaverse startup ecosystem in India by Vinayak Godse CEO, Data Security Council of India, this talk gave insights into how this ecosystem can be explored.
After the lunch break, the event continued with Session – 3: AR/VR/XR & Blockchain; the session was chaired by George Koilpillai. The session quickly started with a talk 2.VII: AR for Metaverse by Dr. Sunil Kumar Vuppala Director – Data, Science Ericsson, this talk explored AR in real-time and also gave an illustrious example of how the world of AR could connect the world to reality. This talk’s extensiveness continued with talk 2.VIII: Blockchain for Metaverse by Soundari Arunachalam Director R&D Honeywell Technology Solutions, which was a unique and timely context on how blockchain could be the world’s most secure possibility.
After the lunch break, the event continued with Session – 3: AR/VR/XR & Blockchain; the session was chaired by George Koilpillai. Mr. Anurag Wasnik, Innovation Lead, Strategic Partnerships & Collaborations, Atal Innovation Mission, NITI Aayog, Mr. Subodh Gajare, Sr. Principal Software Architect, CISCO R&D This session brought a thought on the metaverse, why it’s a hot topic of tech exploration and how it could transform the world we are seeing. The session was filled with Q&A and the speakers gave a clear idea of the metaverse challenges and the ‘ why to how’ concept of the metaverse became an iconic moment of the session.
With the panel discussion ended, the Networking & Tea Break session was held where students and Industrial experts across the state were able to communicate and expand their knowledge with this peak of knowledge expansion the glorious technical fair ended.
